Consent for the recording and use of images

During the course of the school year, we may sometimes wish to take photographs or video recordings of children within school or on school trips, either for our own records, for use as part of our learning curriculum or for inclusion in our promotional material such as the school prospectus and our website. They may also be used to promote good practice of the setting to other teachers, e.g. at training events organised by the Local Authority or national education/government institutions.

Children’s names will never be published alongside their photograph externally to the education setting, unless consent is given. Names may be used internally, for example on a display.

The school may also invite an external photographer to the school each year to take official school photographs and may invite the media in to take photographs of pupils engaged in school activities or events for publication.

Electronic images, whether photographs or videos, will be stored securely on the setting’s network or digital equipment, which is accessible only by authorised users.

To comply with the General Data Protection Regulation, we need to ask your consent before the school record any images of your child.

The school website has image copy protection in place. This adds a simple layer of protection by:

  • Disabling right-click
  • Showing a warning message when image copy actions are attempted
  • Blurring image during common copy/shortcut actions
  • Blurring images when pages are printed or saved as PDF

However, copy protection is a deterrent rather than full protection and cannot stop image scraping.

This form is valid from the date of signing until your child leaves St Andrew’s C.E. First School. Photographs and videos may be securely archived after your child has left the setting. Photographs and videos used for publicity purposes may continue to remain in circulation after your child has left the setting. Please note, you have the right to withdraw or change your consent at any time by giving the school written notice and completing a new consent form but it may not be possible to remove images that are already in circulation or have already been published although every effort will be made to do so. You can notify us of your consent withdrawal in writing by contacting office@st-andrewscofe.worcs.sch.uk.

We recognise that parents, carers and family members may wish to record events such as plays or sports day etc to celebrate their child’s achievements. St Andrew’s C.E. First School is happy to allow this at the discretion of the Headteacher/Senior Manager, on the understanding that such images/recordings are used purely for personal family use. Images containing children other than their own should not be shared on social media or the internet for any reason, without first seeking permission from the other child’s parents or carers.

This table sets out the various reasons for taking, and making use of, images of your child and we should be grateful if you would indicate whether or not you give consent for use in these circumstances.
